Gueidan Hot Spring Scenic Area

1. Environment
The Gueidan Hot Spring is located in the Gueidan Village of Nansi District in Tainan City. It has been a renowned hot spring area since the Japanese Occupation, yet it was not fully developed back then. It was only revived when the Tainan City Government became committed to its development. The initial designated area for the Gueidan Hot Spring was close to 80 hectares. In order to efficiently manage and develop local tourism, hot spring storage tanks were established on the southeastern side of Tiegushan Temple in Gueidan. There are five different kinds of springs in Gueidan: Smelly springs, clear springs, mud springs, carbonic springs, and salty carbonic springs. All of them vary in smell and color, analogous to the characteristics of the five Chinese elements (Wu Sing) metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Hence, they are also known as the Wu Sing Springs. From the mountain trail entrance, you first pass the Gueidan Leisure Farm, which offers camping and accommodations. It is recommended that you stay a night here and take a pleasant walk on the mountain trail, absorbing the phytoncides and observing the animal and plant ecology along the way. The nearby scenic spots are: Gueidan Tiegushan Temple, Jiang’s Historic Residence, Meiling, Shankong Temple, Yongsing Suspension Bridge, Zengwun Reservoir, etc.

Yongsing Suspension Bridge

The Yongsing Suspension Bridge in the Nansi District of Tainan City has a history of over 50 years. It is the last existing bridge to cross the Zengwun River Basin and serves as a crucial route connecting Nansi Village to Jhaosing Village. With an original length of approximately 170 meters, Yongsing Suspension Bridge was a crucial route between Jhaosing and Nansi District in earlier times, as well as a route most taken by students to and from schools. Back in 2007, the bridge was destroyed by the flood brought by Typhoon Krosa. After reconstruction, the hanging bridge and the ramp have a length of 497 meters and a width of 2 meters, making it about twice the size of the original. The bridge was painted purple and the surface of the bridge was layered with wooden pallets, with the main cable and the hanging cable as its highlights. The LED lights installed on both sides of the railings are bright and impressive at night, making Yongsing Suspension Bridge one of the scenic spots of Nansi District. In the future, Yongsing Suspension Bridge will be further integrated with Shankong Temple, Meiling Scenic Area, Jiang’s Historic Residence, Zenwun Reservoir, and Gueidan Hot Springs to form touristic and leisure hot spots of Nansi.
